A Victorian Terrace Refresh

This renovation to a Victorian Terrace draws on the era's architectural motifs and principles for its inspiration, including lattice elements seen in the ironwork on the facade, arch motifs in the original windows, openings and cornices, and tessellated tiles.
These principles are applied in a contemporary manner such that the renovation resonates with the original stylistic elements of the terrace, to avoid a faux
heritage result. Minimalistic arch openings and cove cornices in the kitchen echo the original arch motif in the original terrace, the lattice treatment to the stairwell enables light
to filter into the dining room from above, while tessellated tiles recall the textured, eclectic and often lavish taste of the Victorians.
The arch motif, drawn from the original Victorian terrace, is repeated through the renovation. It connects the updated spaces to the historical era of the original Terrace building, seeking to build on the history and character of the dwelling rather than overwrite it.
Light and landscape inform the new spaces, while the terrace’s constrained space and decorative elements shape them for its warm character.
